COMMUNICATION

Good communication with my reporters is very important to me.   If you have a large job or an immediate turnaround requirement, communication will help ensure that your needs can be met.  If you have a rush or expedite job, please let me know as soon as possible to make sure I am available to read it -- I probably am, but a heads up is helpful.  In addition, if your rush job is longer than 100 pages, it's a good practice to manage the job in sections, that way you can work on subsequent sections at the same time I'm proofing completed portions.

BUSINESS DAYS VS. WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS

Regular turnaround is 2-3 days during regular business days, Monday through Friday.  I do work on weekends as needed, but Sundays and national holidays are not included in the standard rate.  Two complete business days is considered standard and charged at the regular rate.

CLEAN VS. DIRTY (OR FINISHED VS. ROUGH)

Please provide your clean, finished work product for proofreading, a/k/a your final draft.  When the job submitted is less than finished, it is actually harder  to find errors and takes longer to process because the reading is not smooth.  With clean work, errors are much easier to spot because they are more obvious.  It takes less time and is more accurate to proofread clean copy.  I can usually tell within the first 10 pages whether or not we have an issue.  Accordingly, I will notify you and let you know that either you've sent me the wrong file or there will be a rough copy upcharge.

**I reserve the right to upcharge the per page rate for rough transcripts.**

WHAT I LOOK FOR

My process of reading your transcripts includes:

Spelling, punctuation, capitalization

Formatting, exhibits

Attorney names, addresses, phone numbers, E-mail addresses

Number consistency, homophones

Context, colloquy, parentheticals

Lite research of brand name vs. generic medications and other named items

Unfamiliar idioms and other figures of speech

BILLING

Initially, I will invoice immediately, due immediately.  Basically COD for new clients.  Once we establish a working relationship, I will bill on the 1st and 15th of each month, due within 15 days.  I currently accept PayPal, Google Pay, and Zelle.  If you have another method you prefer, please let me know and we'll see what we can work out.  I'm always happy to avoid the 2.9% credit card and PayPal fees that I'm charged by providers!  Again, once we establish a working relationship, I will be willing to accept checks.

PARTNERSHIP

I truly believe that a proofreader and court reporter working together as a team makes for better transcripts.  I will be very responsive to your preferences and deadlines.  Court reporters have a particularly challenging job of creating a verbatim record that is accurate and readable.  My goal is to help you be excellent!
